I Gave Up My Dreams for Him, But on Graduation Day, I Discovered the Truth That Changed Everything. Save

The Fallout

Days passed in a blur of confusion. Each morning, I woke up with a knot in my stomach, the divorce papers lying heavy on my nightstand like a cruel reminder of my reality.

I needed answers, a lifeline. I called Lena, my best friend since childhood. “You have to meet me, Lena. I’m not okay,” I said, my voice cracking.

She arrived with concern etched on her face, her arms enveloping me in comfort. “What happened?” she pressed, and I recounted the shocking events of graduation.

“I can’t believe he would do that to you,” she whispered, her eyes wide with disbelief.

As I spoke, memories flooded back—Corin’s smiles, his promises. I wondered how I had been so blind. “I need to find out what really happened,” I murmured. Lena nodded, supporting me.

We spent hours digging into Corin’s past, reaching out to anyone who would talk. One name kept surfacing: Jason, a classmate who had distanced himself from Corin. “There was something about his exams,” Jason finally admitted, his voice trembling. “He was involved in something... shady.”

My heart raced. I connected the dots, painting a picture of betrayal that felt suffocating. Suddenly, it all made sense—the late nights, the secretive texts, the distance he had created between us. I slammed my fist on the table, “How could he?”

Just then, I received a text from Dorian. *We need to talk.* My pulse quickened at the thought of facing him again but I agreed. I had to know everything.

The Shocking Truth

Meeting Dorian felt surreal. We sat in a dim booth at the coffee shop, the air thick with tension. “You found out something,” I said, barely able to keep my voice steady.

Dorian took a deep breath, looking into my eyes. “It’s worse than you think,” he began, his gaze intense. “Your family... they have a history. Medical malpractice.”

A chill ran down my spine. “What?” The words felt like a slap. “What do you mean?”

“Corin knew all along. He used your sacrifices, your dreams to escape his own family’s dark legacy,” Dorian said quietly.

I shook my head, disbelief coursing through me. “No, that can’t be true.” Yet, a dawning realization began to settle in my consciousness—a truth I never wanted to confront.

“Think about it,” Dorian pressed. “He wanted to become a doctor not just for his own sake, but to distance himself from the shadows of his past. And you—he saw your sacrifices as a ticket out.”

My heart shattered as I absorbed the weight of his words. I had given up everything for a man who had never intended to share any part of his life with me. This wasn’t just betrayal; it was manipulation on a scale I had never fathomed.

As I stared blankly ahead, the realization struck harder than anything before. I was left standing at a crossroads, the dreams I had cherished now built on a foundation of lies. I had sacrificed everything, only to become a pawn in another man’s escape.
