“Corin, wait!” I shouted, panic surging through me as I rushed back toward him. The cacophony of the crowd faded into the background as I closed the distance between us.

His expression shifted to one of irritation, but I pressed on. “What did Dorian mean? What’s going on?”

“You wouldn’t understand,” he snapped, eyes narrowing defensively.

“Try me. You owe me that much.”

He hesitated, shifting from foot to foot, as if weighing his options. “I made mistakes, okay? But you don’t know what I faced! The pressure... it was suffocating.”

Before I could respond, Dorian stepped up, tension radiating off him like heat from a fire. “You think you’re the only one who faced pressure, Corin? You betrayed everyone who believed in you!”

Corin’s jaw clenched. “Betrayed? I did what I had to do!”

“Don’t make this worse,” Corin warned, his voice low and trembling.

Dorian shook his head, his eyes fierce. “You need to leave him now. Take the papers and go. He doesn’t deserve your loyalty.”

The weight of his words crushed me. Memories of our late-night study sessions, the laughter, the plans we had, all began to crumble. “But we’ve shared so much,” I whispered, my heart aching. “It can’t just end like this.”
