I Discovered My Wife’s Betrayal on My Deathbed and Made a Life-Altering Decision to Protect My Legacy Save

Caleb's Arrival

Caleb Miller pushed open the door to Arthur's hospital room, his heart sinking at the sight of his old friend. Arthur lay pale and fragile, a shadow of the robust man he once knew. The sound of the heart monitor filled the tense silence, each beep a reminder of the urgency of the moment.

“Arthur? It’s Caleb,” he said softly, approaching the bed. He noticed the glimmer of tears in Arthur's eyes. “You look... distressed.”

Arthur tried to shift, but the effort was too much. “Caleb... it’s Vanessa,” he rasped, his voice barely a whisper. “She... she’s not who you think.”

“What do you mean?” Caleb's brow furrowed, concern washing over him. “Is she treating you okay?”

“No... it’s worse,” Arthur struggled to say, his chest heaving with labored breaths. “She’s...”

Caleb leaned closer, blocking out the world, sensing the gravity of Arthur’s words. “Take your time, buddy. I’m here.”

“She’s been poisoning me,” Arthur finally managed, his eyes widening with a mix of fear and resignation.

Caleb's gut twisted. “Poisoning? Are you sure?”

“Five days… She plans to take everything.” The raw anguish in Arthur’s voice shattered any semblance of calm. “You have to help me.”

“I will, I promise,” Caleb vowed, his voice steely with determination. “You’re not alone in this.” He clasped Arthur's hand, feeling the warmth slipping away. “We’ll find a way to expose her.”

“Trust no one but yourself,” Arthur whispered, his eyes fluttering shut. “Time is running out.”

Caleb's Investigation

Later that night, Caleb found himself creeping through the dimly lit corridors of Vanessa’s office building, his heart racing with adrenaline. He pushed the door to her office ajar, careful not to make a sound. The room was adorned with sleek furniture, yet the atmosphere felt suffocating, as if it held secrets too dark to bear.

He scanned the desk, cluttered with papers and half-empty coffee cups. “Come on, there has to be something,” he muttered under his breath, rifling through documents. He felt like a detective in a noir film, uncovering hidden truths.

His eyes caught sight of Vanessa's phone, charging on the desk, screen lit up with messages. Caleb hesitated, but curiosity propelled him forward. He opened the messaging app and his stomach sank.

“Can’t wait to be free, Julian! Just a little longer until Arthur is gone.”

“I’ll take care of everything. The money will be ours!”

He scrolled through more messages, each one dripping with malicious intent. “This is it,” he whispered to himself, a mix of dread and resolve swelling within. He could feel the walls closing in, the weight of the betrayal heavy on his shoulders.

Suddenly, the door swung open with a creak, and there stood Vanessa, her expression a perfect mask of shock.

“What are you doing here, Caleb?” she demanded, her voice an icy blade.

Caleb's heart raced. He realized he’d been caught, adrenaline pumping as he faced the woman he had once trusted. “I... I was just looking for some paperwork,” he stammered, desperately trying to maintain his composure.

Vanessa stepped closer, her gaze piercing. “You shouldn’t be snooping around my office. It’s not safe for you.”

He could see the danger in her eyes, and he knew he had to act fast to protect himself—and Arthur.

Section 3

Caleb bolted from Vanessa’s office, heart pounding in his chest. He had stumbled onto something chilling—text messages detailing every twisted plan she had with Julian. Each word echoed in his mind as he rushed down the hallway toward Arthur’s room.

“Arthur! You won’t believe what I found!” Caleb burst in, breathless and frantic. Arthur, lying pale and frail, turned his head slowly, eyes reflecting a flicker of hope.

“What did you discover?” The rasp in Arthur’s voice was barely audible, but the urgency was clear.

Caleb leaned in, lowering his voice. “Vanessa’s been plotting this for months. I found texts between her and her lover. They’re planning to celebrate your death!”

“Celebrate?” Arthur croaked, disbelief mingling with the dawning horror.

“Yes! They think they’ve won. But we can turn this around. You need to fight back.”

Arthur’s brow furrowed, a spark igniting. “I have something… a hidden camera.”

Caleb’s eyes widened. “You recorded her?”

“Yes, I wanted proof,” Arthur replied, struggling to shift his frail body. “But we have to check it now.”

They hurried toward the monitor. Arthur’s fingers trembled as he pressed the buttons, but each attempt yielded nothing. Panic set in as the screen flickered to black.

“It’s off!” Caleb shouted, desperation clawing at him. “How could this happen?”

“I don’t know!” Arthur’s voice rose, urgency cutting through the fear. “It has to be on!”

Caleb’s panic morphed into frustration. “We need another plan. We can’t let her win.”

Section 4

“Let’s bait her,” Caleb suggested, his mind racing. “If we make her believe you’re in worse condition, she’ll come running.”

Arthur’s expression turned serious. “You think it will work?”

“It has to. We’ll stage a health crisis. When she shows up, we’ll catch her off guard.”

With a nod of determination, they devised a makeshift plan. Caleb organized the hospital staff, explaining the ruse, while Arthur feigned increasing weakness. The tension in the air was palpable as they prepped for the moment.

“Trust me. Just act like you’re fading,” Caleb urged.

As they set the stage, Arthur lay on his bed, struggling to keep his breaths steady. A bead of sweat trickled down his brow as he focused on Caleb’s instructions.

“Just a little longer, Arthur. When she walks in, it’s game over for her,” Caleb reassured him, heart pounding with anxiety.

Then, they heard the familiar click of heels outside the door. The moment hung heavy in the air as they exchanged a glance, adrenaline surging between them.

“Now!” Caleb urged, his voice a whisper of urgency.

But just as they were about to execute their plan, Arthur’s face twisted in pain. His hand shot to his chest, gasping as he crumpled against the pillows.

“Arthur!” Caleb shouted, terror flooding through him as he rushed to his side. “Stay with me!”

Arthur’s breaths came in shallow gasps, his eyes wide with fear, leaving Caleb frantic and unsure, the plan unraveling before them.

Caleb's Desperation

“Someone, please! Help!” Caleb Miller shouted, his voice echoing down the sterile hallway of St. Jude Medical Center. The chaos in Arthur’s room consumed him, a whirlwind of urgency and fear.

He had entered to find Arthur gasping, the heart monitor wailing in protest. “Arthur, stay with me!” he urged, frantically pressing the call button. “It’s going to be okay!”

Footsteps pounded toward them, nurses and a doctor bursting into the room. “What happened?” one of the nurses demanded as she rushed to Arthur’s side.

“It’s Vanessa. She—she poisoned him!” Caleb stammered, each word slicing through him like a knife. “You have to believe me!”

The staff exchanged glances, skepticism flashing across their faces. “We need to stabilize him first,” the doctor said, focusing on Arthur.

But Caleb wasn’t finished; adrenaline surged through him. “Look for signs, check the medications! She’s been feeding him something!”

Vanessa arrived moments later, her expression a carefully crafted mask of concern. “What’s going on?” she asked, pretending to be alarmed as she surveyed the scene.

Caleb caught her eye, fury igniting in his chest. “Save your act, Vanessa. We're onto you.”

As Arthur was wheeled away, he locked gazes with Caleb, his voice barely a whisper. “I have one last card up my sleeve,” he rasped, a glint of determination breaking through his pain. “Trust me.”

The Hidden Recording

Time felt suspended as Caleb paced the waiting room, gnawing on his nails, heart racing. What did Arthur mean? The seconds dragged, each tick amplifying his anxiety.

Then, the door swung open. A nurse stepped out with a grave expression. “He’s stable, for now, but we need to keep monitoring him.”

“Did he say anything?” Caleb pressed, desperate for a clue.

The nurse shook her head, and just then, a flash of light caught Caleb’s eye from Arthur’s room. His heart raced—could it be?

“Arthur,” he called, rushing back inside. “What did you mean?”

But the sight that greeted him was stunning: Arthur, propped up slightly, was holding his phone, a sly smile forming on his lips.

“Vanessa thought she had me,” Arthur breathed, his voice stronger now. “I recorded her confession earlier this week. She never suspected a thing.”

“You what?” Caleb’s jaw dropped. “Is it… is it enough?”

“Enough to bring her down.” Arthur leaned back, the weight of his body relaxing against the pillows. “There’s a timer set to upload the video to my lawyer—and the authorities—once I’m gone.”

“You were prepared,” Caleb murmured, the full impact of Arthur’s plan crashing over him like a wave. “You knew.”

“I didn’t go down without a fight, Caleb. The truth will come out,” Arthur affirmed, a determined glint in his eyes. “All in good time.”
