“Come Find Me”
Ava's hands trembled as she hit send. The message was simple—just two words: “Come find me.” But the weight of those words felt like a crushing burden against her chest. What had she done?
Memories of Damon flooded her mind: late-night conversations on park benches, laughter shared over coffee, the friendship that had once been a lifeline. How had she let it slip away? A pang of regret twisted in her gut; she had chosen Richard, hadn’t she? She had believed in the fairy tale, only to find herself in a nightmare.
Every second dragged painfully as she waited for his response. The rain soaked through her dress, pulling her further into the cold reality of the night. She glanced at her phone, the cracked screen barely lighting up. Had it been too long? Was he even available?
Fear wormed through her, reminding her of Richard’s seething fury. But relief was there too, a flicker of hope. If Damon came, maybe she could escape this hell. She leaned against the cold wall, her heart racing, straining to hear the music inside the club—a cruel reminder of the world she had almost been part of.
And then, her phone buzzed. Just one word illuminated the screen: “Coming.”
Damon's Arrival
The rain continued to pour as Damon pulled up to the country club, his heart pounding with urgency. He caught sight of Ava, trembling on the pavement, her mascara smudged and dress torn. “Ava!” he shouted, rushing toward her.
“Damon…” Her voice cracked, relief flooding her features. He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into a tight embrace. “What happened?” he asked, his voice low and steady, scanning her face for answers.
“Richard...” She swallowed hard, the words choking her. “He hit me.”
His expression hardened. “You need to get away from him.”
Ava nodded, tears mingling with the rain. “I don’t know how. He’s... he’s dangerous, Damon. He always finds a way to control me.” She glanced back toward the club, dread creeping back in her throat.
“We’ll figure it out,” he said, gripping her shoulders as if to anchor her. “Tell me everything.”
As she recounted the evening, the panic in her voice drew Damon’s attention. “Listen, I’ll help you escape. I have a plan.”
Ava searched his face, a mixture of hope and fear swirling in her chest. “But what if he finds us? He’s unpredictable.”
“He won’t.” Just as Damon prepared to strategize, he froze, his eyes darting toward the entrance of the club.
Richard stormed out, fury etched across his features. “What do you think you’re doing, Pierce?” he spat, his voice a venomous hiss.
Ava’s heart raced. Damon stepped forward, ready to confront him, but paused, his expression shifting as he registered something ominous.
“He’s already called the police,” Damon whispered, dread blooming in his stomach. The night was growing darker, and the stakes were rising.
Confrontation in the Rain
Ava’s heart raced as Richard stormed out of the country club, the glow of the lights behind him casting a harsh shadow. He zeroed in on Damon, his expression a mix of fury and contempt.
“What the hell are you doing here?” Richard barked, his voice cold and menacing. “Trying to manipulate my wife again?”
Damon stood his ground, his jaw set. “I’m here for Ava. She needs help, Richard.”
Ava shrank back, feeling the weight of their words. She wanted to scream, to escape, but she was frozen in place, the memories of their past colliding with her present fears.
“You’re nothing but a bad influence,” Richard spat, taking a step forward, his hands clenched into fists. “Stay out of this, or you’ll regret it.”
Before she could process what was happening, Richard lunged at Damon, his movements swift and violent. “Get away from her!”
Ava's instincts kicked in. “Stop!” she shouted, rushing between them. Her voice cracked with panic. “Please, don’t!”
The air crackled with tension, and she felt the adrenaline surge through her veins. Richard’s eyes narrowed, anger flickering in the depths. “You think you can protect him? You’re just making things worse!”
In the Shadows
Richard retreated back inside, leaving a thick silence in the air. Ava felt the warmth of the ballroom fade as she and Damon stumbled into a narrow alley, rain pouring down around them.
“Are you okay?” Damon asked, his voice low and urgent as he looked her over, searching for signs of injury.
“I... I don’t know,” Ava replied, her voice barely a whisper. Shaking, she leaned against the damp wall, the cold seeping into her bones.
Damon stepped closer, his expression softening. “I’ve been watching over you, Ava. You’re not alone.”
“What do you mean?” she asked, her chest tightening. “You’ve been here?”
“Always,” he admitted, a hint of sadness in his eyes. “I wanted to protect you, but you never knew.”
A flicker of hope ignited within her, but it dimmed quickly as the echo of Richard’s voice reached them from the entrance of the club. “I called the police on you for trespassing!”
Ava’s stomach dropped. The dread washed over her like icy water. “He… he wouldn’t,” she stuttered, but the reality sank in hard.
“He made sure the police believe him,” Ava whispered, terror clawing at her throat. “What am I going to do?”
Section 5
The wail of sirens sliced through the air, a piercing reminder of the danger closing in. Ava's heart raced as she turned to Damon, desperation clawing at her throat. “What do we do?”
“You need to run,” Damon said, his voice low but urgent. “I’ll hold him off. Just go!”
She hesitated, her feet glued to the wet pavement. Memories of Richard’s anger flooded her mind—a storm of fear and self-doubt. “What if he comes after me?”
Damon grabbed her shoulders, his grip firm. “You have to trust me. He won’t hurt you if I’m here. Just go now!”
The shroud of indecision wrapped tighter around her. Ava could hear Richard’s voice echoing from inside, his laughter cruel and mocking. She took a deep breath, her gaze darting towards the shadows where escape might lie.
But as she turned to run, a figure emerged from the doorway, tall and imposing. Richard stepped out, his lips curling into a sinister smile. “Nice of you to meet my friend, Damon,” he sneered, eyes gleaming with malice. “Did you think I wouldn’t call the police?”
Section 6
Ava's stomach dropped. “You...you told them what?”
Richard stepped closer, his confidence radiating like a dark fog. “I told them I found you with this trespasser.”
“Ava,” Damon warned, his voice low, trying to shield her. But panic surged through her veins as she realized the strategy unspooling before her.
Richard continued, “They’re on my side. They always have been. Your family? They think you're unstable. They trust my word.”
Ava shook her head, disbelief washing over her. “No. They wouldn’t...”
“You’re a good actress, Ava, but the curtain always falls. You can’t escape.”
It felt like the world was closing in as the truth hammered at her: Richard had orchestrated everything, planting seeds of doubt even in those she loved.
“There’s no one left to save you,” Richard said, his voice still smooth, as if he were discussing the weather. “Not even the police.”
Ava felt the ground shift beneath her, the reality of her isolation slamming into her. The sirens grew louder, but they felt more like shackles than a lifeline. She was trapped, suspended in a nightmare with no way out.
Despair washed over her, and she sensed Damon’s frustration morphing into fierce protectiveness as he braced for the inevitable clash. But in that moment, all she could feel was the weight of Richard’s control binding her to her fate.
