My Father’s Dates All Disappear, But When My Best Friend Vanished Too, I Uncovered a Dark Family Secret

My Father’s Dates All Disappear, But When My Best Friend Vanished Too, I Uncovered a Dark Family Secret Save

Confronting the Truth

My heart raced as I faced my father in the dim light of the living room. “I need to know what happened to Maren, Dad,” I pressed, my voice steady despite the chaos in my mind.

He hesitated, his usual calm demeanor cracking. “They... they were all part of something I didn't fully understand,” he admitted, staring at the floor.

“What do you mean? Who were they?” I urged, stepping closer. The wooden floor creaked beneath my feet, unsteady under the weight of unspoken secrets.

“Test subjects, like me,” he murmured, his eyes filled with regret. “The experiment… it involved manipulating memories, left me with this ability. I never wanted any of this.”

“Ability? What do you mean?” I asked, panic threading through my voice. “You mean to erase them?”

He nodded, visibly shaken. “Every woman who got close... I could feel their memories of me slip away. I thought they were just leaving, but they were forgotten.”

“This isn't possible!” I yelled, backing away in horror. “You turned their love into nothing!”

“It was never my choice. I loved them,” he pleaded. “But every time… it’s like a curse.”

Every syllable pierced through me, a dark realization embracing my thoughts. My father had become a specter of love, leaving only echoes of what could have been.

The Sinister Purpose

As I stood there, the weight of his confession clouding my thoughts, I felt something shift within me. “The experiment... what was it really about?” I demanded, searching his eyes for answers.

His face paled. “It was designed to erase emotional attachments. Something went horribly wrong.”

“Erase attachments?” My voice trembled, my mind racing to comprehend the implications. “So it’s not just memories... It’s love, Dad! You’re taking that away from them!”

Just as the horror began to sink in, my phone buzzed violently on the coffee table. “What now?” I muttered, reaching for it.

The message glared back at me: Clara. “They’re coming for you next.”

My breath hitched in my throat, panic crashing like waves. “Who? What do you mean?”

“Clara!” I shouted, but the room felt suddenly suffocating, as though the walls were closing in. “Dad, what have you done?”

He looked at me, fear etched on his face. “I never wanted this,” he whispered, but his tone was laced with a chilling realization. The dark truth loomed larger than my father, as fear morphed into a visceral dread.

My thoughts spiraled. If they could erase love, what was left? Just as I turned to my father, instinct shouting at me to flee, the sense of danger became palpable—a shadow creeping in like a thief, ready to claim me as its next victim.
