Chapter 3: The Anchor of Truth

As the guards escorted Dominic out, I allowed myself a moment of relief. Celeste watched, her expression a mix of confusion and dread, as if she had just awoken from a beautiful dream to discover the nightmare lingering just beyond the veil.

“I… I didn’t know,” she stammered, glancing between the door where Dominic had just exited and the tiny life cradled in my arms.

“You didn’t know?” I asked, incredulous. “You didn’t know he was still married? You didn’t know about his lies?”

“No!” she insisted, her voice breaking. “We’ve been planning this wedding for months! He said I was the only one.”

“He’s a master manipulator, Celeste.”

She stumbled back, her composure fraying. “What do you mean?”

Before I could respond, the nurse returned, a look of sympathy etched on her face.

Then, my phone lit up on the bedside table. A name I didn't expect. Richard Sterling.

“Call me when you can,” the message read, simple but loaded. I stared at the screen, my heart racing.

What did Richard Sterling want with me? The man was known for being ruthless. I knew that much. And yet here I was, tangled in an unexpected web. My instincts told me to ignore him, to let it go. But a tug of curiosity held me there, and I wasn’t about to ignore it. Not tonight.

The story continues…
