I Was Fired by My Husband in Front of Everyone, but What I Discovered Changed Everything

I Was Fired by My Husband in Front of Everyone, but What I Discovered Changed Everything Save

Digging for the Truth

Claire sat across from Angela in their favorite cafe, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee swirling around them. “I can’t shake the feeling that this was planned,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

“You mean Marcus and Sabrina?” Angela asked, her eyebrows knitting together in concern.

“Yes. They acted like a team today, like they were ready for anything. It was like I didn’t even exist.” Claire took a deep breath, resolve hardening inside her. “We need to find out what’s really going on.”

Angela nodded, the determination in her eyes reflected Claire's own. “Let’s start with talking to people at the hospital. We need to see how they interact.”

"And see if anyone's seen anything suspicious," Claire added, her heart racing at the prospect. “If there’s something between them, we need proof.”

They spent the next few hours gathering snippets of gossip from former colleagues, their stories weaving a tapestry of suspicion. “Remember last month, when they both attended the gala together?” a nurse mentioned. “They barely left each other’s side. It was...odd.”

With every conversation, Claire's anger swelled. A nurse recalled Marcus laughing too intimately with Sabrina during a staff meeting. A doctor whispered about how they often left the office together after hours.

“This is it, Angela. I know there’s something here. We’re onto them,” Claire said, adrenaline coursing through her veins. “Tonight, I’ll confront Marcus.”

Confrontation

That evening, Claire found herself pacing in the living room, her hands shaking as she clutched the evidence they had gathered. Each note felt heavier with the burden of truth. When Marcus finally walked in, his expression shifted from surprise to irritation.

“What’s all this?” he asked, brow furrowed as he spotted the papers strewn across the coffee table.

“We need to talk,” Claire said, her heart hammering in her chest. “About you and Sabrina.”

“I’m not doing this right now,” Marcus replied curtly, heading for the stairs. “You’re just upset over the dismissal.”

“No, Marcus,” she said, stepping in front of him. “I’ve talked to people. I know what’s going on between you two.”

His eyes narrowed. “That's absurd. I made the right decision for the hospital. You know that.”

“Did you really, or is this about something else?” Claire pressed, fighting back the urge to cry. “You’ve chosen her over me.”

He scoffed. “You’re being dramatic, Claire. You’re just not indispensable anymore.”

She felt a swell of heat rise to her face but steadied her breath. “You think I’m done? I have something.” With trembling hands, she pulled out the card from her father’s envelope, the edges worn from her grip.

“What’s that?” He took a step closer, curiosity piqued. Claire held it up, her voice steady. “A connection to a powerful board member. Someone who can help me take back control.”

For a brief moment, something flickered in Marcus’s eyes—fear? Recognition? “You don’t know what you’re getting into,” he warned, the tension in the room thickening.

“Watch me.” Just as she turned to leave, the doorbell rang, breaking the charged silence. Claire paused, glancing back at Marcus. “Who could that be?”

“I’ll get it,” Marcus said, his voice suddenly tight. But as he opened the door, Claire felt an icy shiver run down her spine. A mysterious figure stood in the doorway, claiming to be connected to her father's past, and the words that followed hinted at dangerous secrets Marcus had been hiding about the hospital.
