Confrontation with Ian

“What did you find?” Ian’s voice sliced through the silence like glass, cold and sharp. He stood at the doorway of the workshop, arms crossed, a smirk teasing the corners of his mouth.

I stepped back, clutching the letters tightly. “None of your business, Ian.”

He stepped in closer, his eyes flickering with a predatory hunger. “You think you can just waltz back in here and take what belongs to our family? You’re not even family anymore.”

“The only blood you should worry about is the one you’ve spilled to keep secrets.”

“Secrets like what? Those ancient letters?” His sarcasm dripped from every word. “Dad’s regrets? He didn’t want you here. Not now, not ever.”

I felt my heart pound. “That’s not true. He cared about me!”

“Not enough to keep you around. You were a liability, and now you’re a joke.”

“What do you even know about our relationship?” I took a step forward, my fists clenched. “You think you’re better than me?”

Ian leaned in, a twisted smile dancing across his lips. “What if I offered you a way out? We could work together to claim what’s rightfully ours.”

“Rightfully ours?” I scoffed. “That’s a trap, Ian. I know your games.”

“No games, brother. Just survival. You need to choose wisely.” His eyes bored into me, a flicker of something dangerous lurking just beneath the surface.

I stepped back again, my mind racing. “I’m not interested in your twisted schemes.”

A Lavish Party

The moment I approached the house, garish laughter spilled through the windows. Grace’s bright voice, all charm and feigned warmth, floated toward me like a taunt.

I hesitated at the door, my heart sinking. “This is how you honor my father?”

As I stepped inside, opulence smacked me in the face—crystal chandeliers, silk drapes, the smell of expensive perfume. Grace was laughing with her friends, a glass of wine in hand, oblivious to my presence.

“Grace!” I called, but she glanced over her shoulder, her expression momentarily confused before returning to her laughter.

“I need to talk to you!” I pushed through the throng of people, but she waved me off. “Not now, Michael. Can’t you see I’m busy?”

I stood frozen, anger boiling beneath the surface. “Busy? With what? Disrespecting my father?”

She turned fully, her smile fading. “You should leave. This isn’t for you.”

As she returned to her guests, I felt like a ghost, fading away unnoticed. I knew if I didn’t get answers today, I’d never uncover the truth hidden in those letters. Just then, her phone rang.

“Yes, I’ll take care of it. We’re selling the house next week and moving far away.”

My breath hitched. Selling the house? Moving? How much of my father’s life had I missed while I was gone?

The story continues…
