I Gave Birth Alone While He Chose Cocktails on the Beach, and My Revenge Left Him Speechless

Trying to Make Amends
“Today will be different,” Trevor declared, his enthusiasm wavering under my scrutiny. He clutched a pamphlet for a family outing, eyes bright with hope. “I’ve planned this. Just the four of us, you know? To bond.”
I glanced at the twins sleeping in their cribs. “What makes you think we can just… bond? You left during my recovery. I don’t even know who you are right now.”
“Look, I messed up, okay? I just thought... I thought a little break would help,” he stammered, running a hand through his hair.
“You thought?” I snapped. “Thinking doesn’t help when you’re not here. We had a family to prepare for, Trevor.”
The clock ticked ominously as we hurried out the door. He gave directions, confidence returning to his voice. But as we drove through the city, I felt a knot of anxiety tighten in my stomach. “Are you sure we’ll make it on time?”
“Of course! It’s just… a quick stop first.”
Quick? My heart raced as the minutes slipped away, and soon we were late. When we finally arrived, the restaurant was closing its doors. “No!” Trevor shouted, slamming his hand against the steering wheel. “I promised you a lovely day.”
“You promised me you’d be here. This was supposed to be a fresh start!” I yelled back, my voice rising with frustration.
“I know, I know!” he shouted, his own panic flaring. “I’m just trying to…”
“What? Make it all okay when you don’t even know what you’re doing?” I crossed my arms, feeling the weight of resentment. In that moment, he simply deflated, shoulders slumping. “Maybe I’m just... unprepared for this,” he admitted, voice barely above a whisper.
As I opened my mouth to respond, his phone buzzed, cutting through the tension. He glanced at the screen, and his face drained of color.
“It’s my ex,” he breathed, disbelief dancing in his eyes. “She’s in town. Wants to meet.”
Shattered Trust
My heart sank as I processed his words. “What?” I could hardly believe my ears. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”
“I swear I didn’t plan this. She just—” Trevor stammered, but I cut him off.
“Just? You didn’t think to mention this before? What was the beach trip really about, Trevor?”
He opened his mouth to speak but faltered, glancing down at his hands. The realization was heavy in the air between us. “I didn’t want to hurt you. I thought…”
“Thought what? That you could play both sides?” I felt my anger swell, but deep down, it was disbelief that clawed at me. “You left me alone to give birth, and now you’re telling me your ex is back in the picture?”
Trevor flinched, his face a mask of guilt. “It wasn’t like that, I swear. I just—”
“You just what?” I interrupted, breathless. “Wanted a break from us? From this life?”
His silence was deafening. I shook my head, a surge of betrayal washing over me. “You were on vacation with her in mind all along. I can’t…”
As I stepped back, the walls of our fragile relationship crumbled, each piece taking with it my trust. My heart raced, and for the first time, I felt utterly alone.
