Section 5
As we stepped into the penthouse, the lavish décor overwhelmed me. It was a world I had never known—marble floors, crystal chandeliers, and art pieces that looked like they belonged in a museum.
Mikhail closed the door behind us, his presence looming like a dark cloud. He handed me a sleek black phone, the kind I imagined was used for important calls only. “If you ever need anything,” he said, his voice low, “call me.”
I forced a smile, but unease twisted in my stomach. This wasn’t just an offer; it was a chain, binding me to him and his world.
Misha clung to my side, his small hand trembling. “It’s nice, right?” he said, trying to lighten the mood. But I could see the invisible weight pressing down on him. “Papa protects us,” he added, voice wavering.
As Misha led me through the rooms, I caught snippets of his life, filled with luxury but also shadowed by fear. “We can’t go outside much. Papa says it’s not safe,” he murmured, glancing around as if rivals might be lurking in the corners.
My heart sank. I couldn’t shake the feeling that just being here was a mistake. I started plotting my escape, but the guards stationed at every corner—a constant reminder of Mikhail’s watchful eye—made it seem impossible.
How had I gotten myself into this? All for a simple act of kindness.
Section 6
It wasn’t until I overheard Mikhail speaking to one of his associates that the truth struck me. “Misha will learn to lead one day,” he said, his voice filled with a twisted pride. “He must be ready.”
A chill ran down my spine. Misha wasn’t just a frightened boy; he was the heir to a criminal empire. My heart raced as the realization hit me—the weight of my kindness now tangled me in this dark legacy.
“Papa, I don’t want to lead!” Misha protested, his eyes wide with fear. But Mikhail’s laughter echoed, hollow and menacing. “You’ll learn to be strong, son. This is our world.”
I felt the room closing in on me, the opulence now feeling like a prison. Mikhail’s obsession with control was suffocating, a grasp that would not loosen.
Determined to confront him, I found my voice. “Mikhail, Misha needs a childhood, not a legacy of violence.”
Before he could respond, the door burst open. A gang, wild and chaotic, surged into the penthouse, guns drawn and shouting. The room erupted into chaos, and my mind raced—this was the world I had unwittingly stepped into.
I froze, caught between my desire to protect Misha and the fear that coursed through me. This was no longer just a diner.
