I Discovered My High School Sweetheart Planned to Use Me, So I Turned the Tables with an Unexpected Proposal of My Own

I Discovered My High School Sweetheart Planned to Use Me, So I Turned the Tables with an Unexpected Proposal of My Own Save

Section 5

“We need to meet with a lawyer,” I said, my voice steady despite the storm brewing inside me. “To draft the prenup.”

Glenn’s expression shifted. “A prenup? Come on, that’s unnecessary. We’ve got a solid foundation.”

“A solid foundation? You mean your plans to use me?”

His brow furrowed. “You can’t seriously think—”

“I know what you were saying on the phone, Glenn. I know your intentions.”

His charm faltered. “Look, I’ve been thinking about our future. I’ve already started planning.”

“Planning isn’t enough,” I countered, leaning in closer. “If you want this marriage, you need to show commitment. Signing that prenup is step one.”

Glenn’s jaw tightened. “Fine, but this is just a formality. It feels wrong.”

“Wrong? It’s about protecting what’s mine,” I shot back. “We can’t build a future on shaky ground.”

He sighed, frustration visibly mounting. “Okay, I’ll agree to the meeting, but you’re overreacting. I love you, you know that.”

I watched him closely, the gears turning in his mind. His eyes narrowed slightly as he plotted, and a chill crawled up my spine. Something wasn’t right.

Section 6

The lawyer’s office felt sterile, the air thick with tension as Glenn shifted in his seat. “This is just a waste of time,” he muttered.

“You can’t keep avoiding this,” I replied, refusing to back down. “We’re doing this.”

As the meeting commenced, we discussed the terms of the prenup. Glenn's face was a mask of forced calm, but I could feel the anxiety radiating off him.

Then, in a moment that sent my heart racing, he dropped the bombshell. “I have a child. With someone else.”

“What?” My voice cracked, disbelief coursing through me.

“It was years ago. I didn’t think it mattered.”

“Didn’t think it mattered?” My hands clenched in my lap. “You’ve been planning a life with me, while hiding a child?”

“I’m trying to protect you, to protect us,” he insisted, desperation flooding his voice.

“Protect me? By keeping secrets?” The weight of his betrayal crashed down on me. “You were never in this for the right reasons.”

As I stared into his eyes, I saw the truth: Glenn never intended to be my husband. I was just a means to an end, a way to secure a stable life while concealing his secret. My heart raced with the realization.

“I can’t do this,” I whispered, the hardest decision of my life hanging in the air. “I need to think.”
