Tessa’s Heart is Racing
Tessa’s heart raced as she caught sight of the police officers approaching the restaurant. A cold wave of fear gripped her—would they take Ivy away? She barely had time to breathe before Graham stepped in front of her, his presence both calming and intense.
"I can vouch for Tessa," he declared, his voice steady. "She’s a loving mother who's doing her best." His eyes were fierce with determination, but Tessa felt her pulse quickening again as she glanced at Marcus.
“What a surprise,” Marcus sneered, stepping closer. “Now you’re playing the noble guardian? You think meddling makes you a hero?”
Tessa clenched her fists, panic bubbling up. “Marcus, please.” Her voice trembled. “This isn’t the time.”
But as the words left her lips, Ivy let out a wail that sliced through the tension. Tessa rushed to her baby, scooping her up and cradling her against her chest. “Shh, sweet girl, it’s okay,” she murmured, her heart aching at the sound of Ivy's cries.
Then, she felt a police officer’s gaze on her, sharp and scrutinizing. “Ma’am, can we talk?” The words were official yet heavy with judgment. “We received a complaint regarding your parenting.”
It was as if the ground had dropped from beneath her. “What?!”
The officer’s expression remained neutral, but the weight of his words hit like a brick. Tessa’s mind raced, trying to process how everything had spiraled out of control. How could anyone—especially Marcus—think she was unfit?
The Shocking Twist
Before Tessa could respond, a familiar voice pierced through the chaos—Miranda’s. “This is exactly what I warned you about, Tessa,” she said, stepping into view. “You should never have brought that baby to work. Now look where we are.”
“Miranda, what do you mean?” Tessa’s voice trembled with confusion.
Miranda’s smile was cold and triumphant. “I tipped them off, of course. I had my reasons. You were never going to make it in this industry with a child around.”
Tessa felt the blood drain from her face. “You did this?” Her voice was barely a whisper.
“You’ve been a liability, Tessa, and I had to protect my own interests.” Miranda leaned closer, her voice dripping with disdain. “And Graham? He’s been waiting for you to fail. It’s about time someone else took the reins.”
Tessa’s mind reeled. Graham’s concern, his protective stance—was it nothing more than a façade? Her heart sank even further when Marcus chimed in, a smirk twisting his lips. “Oh, and by the way, Tessa, I filed a restraining order against you for endangerment.”
“What? You can’t do that!” Tessa’s voice cracked, her world crumbling as she stood frozen in disbelief.
The room felt like it was closing in, her vision narrowing on Ivy, who was still whimpering. How could everything unravel so quickly? And how had Miranda managed to play this twisted game, leaving her trapped in a nightmare?
