The air in the room is thickening, a palpable tension as I weigh Dad's words against my achievements. "You prioritized Cody's little league over my graduation, Dad," I say, forcing the words out. "Did you even think about what that meant to me?"
He shifts in his seat, the weight of his choices pressing down on him. "Family always comes first," he deflects, his voice heavy with defiance, but I can see the cracks in his facade.
“What about recognition for my hard work? My sacrifices?” I press, my heart racing. I can feel the bias radiating from them, something they've always been too blind to acknowledge. “You never even asked about my company.”
Mom's eyes dart between us, filled with an unspoken plea for peace. Yet, I can’t back down. “If you really love me, prove it! Stop hiding behind Cody’s accomplishments.”

My voice rises in a crescendo of frustration, “Is this all about money for you? Do you care now because of what I’ve built?” The question hangs in the air, and even I can hear the tremor in my voice. “I’ve been thinking about cutting ties entirely.”
The words slice through the silence, each syllable a nail in the coffin of our relationship. “This favoritism has suffocated me for too long,” I say, sadness creeping into my tone.
Dad’s expression shifts, a flicker of fear crossing his face. “You don’t understand,” he says, his voice barely above a whisper. “I... I had to pressure your mother into favoring Cody. I thought it was best.”
Shock crashes over me in waves. “You hid my achievements from her?” I can hardly comprehend what he’s saying. “All this time, you’ve made decisions based on your own insecurities?”
His confession stings, the betrayal cutting deeper than I expected. My family's support has always hinged on their own failures and fears, and I’m left standing at the precipice of a choice I never wanted to make.
“What am I supposed to do with that?” I whisper, feeling the weight of uncertainty settling on my shoulders. “Reconnect or sever ties?”
