I Boarded the Flight Between My Husband and His Secret Lover and Discovered the Money He Was Stealing From Our Family

I Boarded the Flight Between My Husband and His Secret Lover and Discovered the Money He Was Stealing From Our Family Save

Confrontation in the Airplane Bathroom

I slipped into the cramped bathroom, the door sighing shut behind me.

“Maya,” I said, voice shaking, “who are you really?”

She turned, eyes to the mirror, the fluorescent strip buzzing.

“You’ve got the wrong name,” she replied, her tone flat.

“Explain.”

She inhaled, a faint scent of cheap perfume filling the stale air.

“I’m not a lover. I’m his ex‑wife.”

My heart hammered; the word slammed against my ribs.

“Ex‑wife? Why here? Why now?”

She glanced at the tiny window, the sky a thin gray line.

“We were supposed to meet after the flight, to sign the final divorce papers.”

“The ones that split the house and the daughter’s custody?”

She nodded, pulling a crumpled envelope from her bag.

“Our lawyer sent us the settlement. He asked me to come because he… he wanted us to keep it quiet.”

“Quiet? You think I’m not quiet enough?”

She swallowed, eyes flickering with something I couldn’t read.

“You’re not supposed to be here, Grant’s wife.”

The words cut deeper than any accusation.

“What does he want with our daughter?”

She placed a hand on the sink, the metal cool against her skin.

“He says it’s for her future, a trust that will release when she turns eighteen.”

“A trust funded by what?”

She hesitated, the silence filling the tiny space.

“He… he has a bank account in Charleston. Money we never saw.”

My breath caught, the bathroom tile glinting under the harsh light.

“You know where it is?” I whispered.

She nodded, eyes meeting mine, a flicker of regret.

“Yes. And I’m here to make sure he signs before we all get burned.”

Before I could ask more, the bathroom door clicked open, the cabin’s low hum seeping in.

Whispers in the Galley and Sudden Darkness

I stepped onto the galley, the metallic clang of coffee carts echoing.

A flight attendant brushed past, her apron rustling, a nervous smile on her face.

“Excuse me,” I called, “did you hear anything about…?”

She leaned close, voice barely above the hiss of the air vents.
