Ingredients

1 pound fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup heavy whipping cream

1/4 cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for cream)

1 store-bought angel food cake, cut into 1-inch cubes

1/2 cup sweetened cream cheese (mix 4 oz. cream cheese with 1/4 cup powdered sugar)

Mint leaves for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Strawberries: In a medium bowl, combine the sliced strawberries, granulated sugar, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Toss to coat, then let the mixture sit for about 30 minutes to macerate. This will help the strawberries release their juices.

Make the Whipped Cream: In a large mixing bowl, combine the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Using an electric mixer, whip on medium-high speed until soft peaks form. Be careful not to overwhip; you want it to be smooth and creamy.

Assemble the Trifle: In a large trifle dish or individual serving glasses, begin layering the ingredients. Start with a layer of angel food cake cubes at the bottom. Then, add a layer of the macerated strawberries with some juice, followed by a layer of the sweetened cream cheese mixture.

Add the Whipped Cream: Next, spread a layer of whipped cream over the cream cheese layer.

Repeat Layers: Continue layering the ingredients in the same order until the dish or glasses are filled. Aim for at least three layers, finishing with whipped cream on top.

Garnish: Decorate the top with additional sliced strawberries and a few mint leaves for a pop of color.

Chill: Cover the trifle with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
