12 oz spaghetti

1 lb ground beef or turkey

1 medium onion, chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes

1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce

1 tsp dried basil

1 tsp dried oregano

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

1 cup ricotta cheese

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 large egg

1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions
 

Cook the Spaghetti: In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

    Cook the Meat: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef or turkey. Brown the meat until fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.

      Sauté Vegetables: Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the cooked meat. Sauté for another 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent.

        Combine with Sauce: Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, basil, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Let this simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

          Prepare Cheese Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, 1/2 of the mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, and the egg. Mix until uniform and fluffy.

            Assemble the Casserole: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). In a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, layer half of the spaghetti on the bottom. Spread half of the meat sauce over the spaghetti, followed by the entire cheese mixture. Top with the remaining spaghetti, then the rest of the meat sauce. Finally, sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese on top.

              Bake: Cover the casserole with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. After that, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

                Cool and Serve: Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot.
