Ingredients

1 lb ground turkey (preferably 93% lean)

1/4 cup smoked paprika

1/4 cup breadcrumbs (preferably whole wheat)

2 cloves garlic, minced

1/2 medium onion, finely chopped

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp Dijon mustard

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (adjust for spice level)

1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped

4 whole grain burger buns

4 slices smoked cheddar cheese (optional)

Lettuce leaves, tomato slices, and your favorite condiments for serving

Instructions

Prep the Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, smoked paprika, breadcrumbs, minced garlic, chopped onion, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and parsley. Mix gently until all ingredients are just combined, being careful not to overmix to keep the burgers tender.

Form the Patties: Divide the mixture into four equal portions. Gently shape each portion into a burger patty about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to help them cook evenly.

Preheat the Grill: Preheat your outdoor grill to medium-high heat (about 400°F). If using a grill pan, heat it on the stove over medium heat. Lightly oil the grill grates or the grill pan to prevent sticking.

Grill the Burgers: Place the patties on the grill. Cook for about 5-7 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F. If using cheese, add a slice of smoked cheddar on each patty during the last minute of grilling and close the lid to melt.

Toast the Buns: While the burgers are cooking, cut your whole grain buns in half and lightly toast them on the grill for about 1-2 minutes, until golden brown.

Assemble the Burgers: Remove the patties from the grill and let them rest for a minute. On the bottom half of each toasted bun, layer a lettuce leaf, the turkey patty, tomato slices, and any additional toppings or condiments of your choice. Top with the other half of the bun.

Serve & Enjoy: Serve your smoky grilled turkey burgers hot with a side of sweet potato fries or a fresh garden salad for a perfect meal!
