Ingredients

2 Ahi tuna steaks (about 6 oz each)

1/4 cup soy sauce

2 tablespoons sesame oil

1 tablespoon honey

1 garlic clove, minced

1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated

1/2 cup white sesame seeds

1/2 cup black sesame seeds

1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for searing)

Salt and pepper to taste

Optional garnish: sliced green onions and wasabi

Instructions

Marinate the Tuna: In a shallow dish, whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, honey, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Place the Ahi tuna steaks in the marinade and let them rest for 30 minutes at room temperature, turning occasionally to ensure even flavor absorption.

Prepare the Sesame Coating: On a large plate, combine both white and black sesame seeds. Make sure they are evenly mixed for a striking look and balance in flavor.

Coat the Tuna: After marinating, remove the tuna steaks from the marinade and gently shake off any excess. Season both sides with salt and pepper to taste. Press each steak into the sesame seed mixture, ensuring they are fully coated on all sides for a crunchy crust.

Heat the Pan: In a large skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Allow the oil to get hot but not smoking.

Sear the Tuna: Carefully place the sesame crusted tuna steaks in the skillet. Sear for about 1 to 2 minutes on each side, depending on your preferred doneness (1 minute for rare, 2 minutes for medium-rare). The outside should be golden brown while the inside remains pink.

Rest and Slice: Once cooked to your liking, remove the tuna steaks from the skillet and let them rest for a couple of minutes. Using a sharp knife, slice the tuna steaks into thin slices for an impressive presentation.

Serve: Arrange the sliced tuna on a serving plate. Garnish with sliced green onions and a small dollop of wasabi, if desired. Enjoy your delightful Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna as a main dish, or serve it as an elegant appetizer!
