Ingredients

For the Brownies:

1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter

1 cup (200g) granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup (65g) all-purpose flour

1/2 cup (50g) cocoa powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 cup (60ml) strong brewed coffee, cooled

For the Salted Caramel Sauce:

1 cup (200g) granulated sugar

6 tablespoons (85g) unsalted butter, cut into cubes

1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream

1 teaspoon sea salt (adjust to taste)

For Topping:

Flaky sea salt, for garnish

Optional: Chocolate chips or mocha chips for extra fudginess

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving a bit of an overhang for easy removal.

    Prepare the Brownie Batter:

      - In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, remove from heat and stir in the granulated sugar until well combined.

        - Let the mixture cool slightly, then whisk in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.

          - In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Pour in the brewed coffee, mixing until smooth. If you like, add in chocolate chips or mocha chips at this stage.

            Bake the Brownies:

              - Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

                Make the Salted Caramel Sauce:

                  - While the brownies are baking, prepare the salted caramel. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar until it becomes a golden brown liquid, swirling the pan gently (do not stir) to ensure even melting. This should take about 8-10 minutes.

                    - Once melted, add the cubes of butter, stirring constantly until fully incorporated.

                      - Slowly pour in the heavy cream (be careful, as it will bubble vigorously) and stir until smooth. Remove from heat and stir in the sea salt. Allow to cool to room temperature.

                        Assemble the Brownies:

                          - Once the brownies are baked, remove them from the oven and let them cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, drizzle half of the salted caramel sauce over the top of the brownies. Use a knife or spatula to gently swirl it into the brownies.

                            Chill and Serve:

                              - Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before lifting them out using the parchment paper. Once cooled, cut into squares and drizzle with the remaining salted caramel sauce. Finish with a sprinkle of flaky sea salt on top.

Enjoy: Serve immediately, or store in an airtight container for up to a week. Enjoy the combination of rich chocolate, coffee notes, and sweet-salty caramel!
