Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

1 cup dulce de leche or homemade caramel sauce

Flaky sea salt, for topping

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.

Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add in the vanilla extract, mixing well after each addition.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined and a dough forms. Do not overmix.

Reserve about 1 cup of the dough and set it aside. Spread the remaining dough evenly into the prepared baking dish, pressing it down firmly.

Pour the dulce de leche or caramel sauce over the base layer, spreading it evenly across the dough.

Crumble the reserved dough over the caramel layer to create a crumbly topping.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set. A toothpick inserted should come out with a few moist crumbs attached.

Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 15 minutes before sprinkling the top with flaky sea salt.

Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before lifting out and cutting into squares.
