Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup warm water (about 110°F/43°C)

1 tablespoon instant yeast

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon sugar

1 tablespoon olive oil (optional, for a richer flavor)

1 tablespoon baking powder

½ teaspoon caraway seeds (optional, for authentic German flavor)

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and instant yeast. Let it sit for about 1 minute until foamy.

Add the all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder to the mixture. If you're using olive oil and caraway seeds, add them now as well.

Stir the mixture until a dough starts to form. If the dough is too sticky, add a little extra flour until it is manageable.

Quickly knead the dough for about 1 minute in the bowl or on a lightly floured surface until smooth.

Shape the dough into a loaf or round shape and place it onto a greased baking sheet or a parchment-lined baking tray.

Use a sharp knife to make a few shallow cuts on top of the bread for decoration and to help it rise evenly.

Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

Remove from the oven, let it cool for a few minutes, slice, and enjoy!

Prep Time: 5 minutes | Total Time: 20-25 minutes | Servings: Makes 1 loaf (approximately 8 slices)
