Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup milk

1/4 cup vegetable oil

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup boiling water

1 cup hot fudge sauce, plus extra for serving

1 cup vanilla ice cream

Whipped cream, for topping

Maraschino cherries, for garnish

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan and set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

Add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth and well incorporated.

Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin; this is normal.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Once cooled, poke holes all over the top of the cake using a skewer or toothpick. Pour the hot fudge sauce over the cake, allowing it to seep into the holes.

To serve, slice a piece of the fudge cake and plate it. Top with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream, a swirl of whipped cream, and a maraschino cherry.

Drizzle more hot fudge sauce over the top of the sundae cake for an extra indulgent treat. Enjoy!
