Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1/2 cup cooked and crumbled bacon (about 5-6 strips)

1/4 cup maple syrup

3/4 cup buttermilk

1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

Cut in Butter: Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Add Cheese and Bacon: Gently fold in the shredded cheddar cheese and crumbled bacon until evenly distributed.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix together the buttermilk and maple syrup until smooth.

Incorporate Wet into Dry: Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the buttermilk mixture. Stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; the dough should be slightly sticky.

Shape the Biscuits: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Pat the dough into a rectangle about 1-inch thick. Use a floured biscuit cutter or a sharp knife to cut out biscuits. Gather any scraps and reshape to cut out additional biscuits.

Place on Baking Sheet: Arrange the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each one.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown on top.

Cool and Garnish: Once baked, remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. If desired, sprinkle with chopped chives before serving.

Serve Warm: Enjoy these warm biscuits drizzled with extra maple syrup or on their own!
