Ingredients

1 large head of green cabbage

1 cup cooked rice (white or brown)

1 pound ground beef or ground turkey

1 cup marinara sauce, plus extra for topping

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried basil

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Cabbage: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the cabbage. Gently place the whole head of cabbage in the boiling water for about 2-3 minutes until the outer leaves start to soften. Carefully peel off the softened leaves and set aside. Repeat until you have about 12 good-sized leaves.

Make the Filling: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked rice, ground beef (or turkey), marinara sauce, chopped onion, minced garlic, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes (if using), Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper. Mix well until everything is evenly combined.

Stuff the Cabbage Leaves: Lay a cabbage leaf flat on a clean surface. Place about 2-3 tablespoons of filling at the base of the leaf. Fold the sides over and roll it up tightly, tucking in the ends as you go. Repeat with the remaining leaves and filling.

Prepare the Cooking Dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of a baking dish.

Arrange the Rolls: Place the stuffed cabbage rolls seam-side down in the baking dish. Pour the remaining marinara sauce evenly over the rolls.

Bake: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until heated through and slightly bubbly.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving.
