Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast

1 ½ cups warm water (about 110°F/43°C)

1 tablespoon sugar

2 teaspoons salt

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted (plus more for brushing)

3 tablespoons olive oil

1 tablespoon Italian seasoning

5 cloves garlic, minced

1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Freshly grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for serving)

Instructions

Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.

Make Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

Knead Dough: Flour a clean surface and knead the dough for 8-10 minutes until it’s soft and elastic. Alternatively, you can use a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook for about 5 minutes.

First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.

Prepare Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, combine melted butter, minced garlic, and Italian seasoning. Mix well. Set aside.

Shape Knots: Once risen, punch down the dough. Divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope (about 6-8 inches) and tie it into a knot. Tuck the ends underneath.

Second Rise: Place the knots on a greased baking sheet, cover with a towel, and let them rise for another 30 minutes until puffy.

Preheat Oven: While knots are rising, preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Bake Knots: Brush the knots generously with the garlic butter mixture. Reserve some for later. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

Finishing Touch: Remove from the oven and brush with the remaining garlic butter. Sprinkle fresh parsley and Parmesan cheese on top, if desired.

Serve: Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your extra soft and buttery Italian Herb Garlic Knots warm with marinara sauce or as a delightful side dish!
