Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon instant yeast

3/4 cup warm water (about 110°F/43°C)

2 tablespoons plain yogurt (preferably Greek)

2 tablespoons olive oil (plus extra for cooking)

2-3 cloves garlic, minced

Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)

Melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions

Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water with sugar and instant yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

Mix the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the yogurt, olive oil, and the yeast mixture. Mix together until a shaggy dough forms.

Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface. Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

First Rise: Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until it doubles in size.

Shape the Naan: After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten it into oval shapes about 1/4 inch thick.

Prepare the Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, mix the melted butter with the minced garlic.

Cook the Naan: Preheat a skillet or a tandoor (if available) over medium-high heat. Lightly oil the skillet. Place one naan in the skillet and cook for about 1-2 minutes until bubbles form on the surface. Flip it over and cook the other side for another 1-2 minutes until it’s golden brown and cooked through. Brush the top with the garlic butter while it cooks.

Repeat: Continue this process for the remaining naan, stacking them and covering with a clean towel to keep warm.

Garnish and Serve: Once all naan is cooked, brush them again with melted butter and sprinkle with fresh chopped cilantro. Serve warm with your favorite curry or yogurt-based dipping sauce!
