Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1 cup diced cooked ham

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup buttermilk

1/4 cup chives, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder until well combined.

Add Cheese and Ham: Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and diced ham, mixing until evenly distributed throughout the dry ingredients.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, mix together the melted butter and buttermilk until combined.

Create Biscuit Dough: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and gently stir until just combined. Avoid over-mixing; the dough should be slightly lumpy.

Pour in the Baking Dish: Pour the dough into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly. The dough will be thick.

Add Extra Butter: Pour 1/2 cup of melted butter over the top of the dough (it’s okay if it pools in some areas), letting it soak in.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool and Serve: Let the biscuits cool for a few minutes. Cut into squares and serve warm. Garnish with chopped chives if desired.
