Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1/2 lb ground pork

1 medium onion, finely chopped

1 cup French onion soup (store-bought or homemade)

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 large egg

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon dried thyme

Salt and pepper to taste

2 tablespoons olive oil (for frying)

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cook the Onions: In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté for about 10-12 minutes until they are caramelized and golden brown. Stir occasionally to prevent burning. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, egg, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, pepper, and the cooled caramelized onions. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated, being careful not to overmix.

Shape the Meatballs: With slightly moistened hands, shape the mixture into 1.5-inch meatballs and arrange them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Bake the Meatballs: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they are cooked through and golden on the outside.

Prepare the Sauce: While the meatballs are baking, pour the French onion soup into a medium saucepan over low heat. Allow it to warm gently, stirring occasionally. You can add more caramelized onions for extra flavor if desired.

Combine Meatballs with Sauce: Once the meatballs are cooked, carefully transfer them into the saucepan with the warm French onion soup. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes, allowing them to absorb some of the soup’s flavors.

Serve: Use a slotted spoon to transfer the meatballs to a serving platter. Drizzle with additional French onion soup and garnish with fresh parsley.

Enjoy: Serve these delectable French onion meatballs with crusty bread, mashed potatoes, or over pasta for a delightful meal!
