2 cups all-purpose flour

1/3 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

1 cup heavy cream (plus extra for brushing)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 large egg (for egg wash)

Optional: powdered sugar for dusting

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

    Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

      Cut in Butter: Add the cubed cold butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingertips to blend the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.

        Add Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine the heavy cream and vanilla extract. Pour this mixture into the flour and butter mixture. Stir gently until just combined.

          Fold in Chocolate Chips: Add the chocolate chips to the dough and fold them in carefully. Be careful not to overmix.

            Shape the Dough: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead it a few times until it comes together. Pat the dough into a circle about 1-inch thick.

              Cut Scones: Use a sharp knife or a pizza cutter to cut the dough into 8 equal wedges. Alternatively, use a round cutter for a more classic shape. Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet.

                Make Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk the egg with a tablespoon of water to create an egg wash. Brush the mixture on the tops of each scone.

                  Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown on top and cooked through. A toothpick inserted should come out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
