Ingredients

1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey for a lighter option)

1 medium onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup ketchup

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 teaspoon chili powder

1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

4 hamburger buns

Optional toppings: shredded cheese, pickles, or coleslaw

Instructions

Brown the Meat: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef (or turkey). Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks, about 5–7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.

Sauté Aromatics: Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Continue cooking for about 3–4 minutes, until the onion is translucent and fragrant.

Mix the Sauce: In a medium bowl, combine ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, chili powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir until well combined.

Combine: Pour the sauce mixture over the meat in the skillet. Stir thoroughly to coat the meat evenly. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

Prepare the Buns: While the meat is simmering, lightly toast the hamburger buns in a toaster or on a griddle until golden brown.

Assemble: Spoon a generous amount of the sloppy joe mixture onto the bottom half of each toasted bun. Add any optional toppings if desired, then place the top half of the bun over the mixture.

Serve: Enjoy your savory sloppy joes hot, with a side of fries or a simple salad for a complete meal!
