Ingredients

2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)

1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast

¾ cup warm water (about 110°F or 43°C)

1 tablespoon olive oil (plus extra for greasing)

1 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

Prepare the Yeast: In a small bowl, mix the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, until it becomes frothy. This activates the yeast.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.

Mix the Dough: Make a well in the center of the flour mixture. Pour in the frothy yeast mixture and olive oil. Using a wooden spoon, mix until the dough begins to come together.

Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic. If the dough is sticky, sprinkle a little extra flour as needed.

First Rise: Lightly coat a clean bowl with olive oil. Place the dough in the bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Shape the Dough: Once risen, punch down the dough to release air. On a floured surface, roll out the dough into your preferred pizza shape and thickness (about 1/4 inch thick for a classic crust).

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) during the last few minutes of the shaping process.

Prepare for Topping: Transfer the rolled-out dough onto a pizza stone or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Add your favorite sauces, cheeses, and toppings.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.

Serve: Slice up your homemade pizza and enjoy!
