Ingredients

2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (one packet)

1 ½ cups warm water (110°F)

3 ½ to 4 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon sugar

1 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, until it becomes frothy. This ensures that the yeast is active.

Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 3 ½ cups of flour and salt. If you prefer a slightly thicker dough, you can use the full 4 cups of flour later.

Combine Ingredients: Once the yeast mixture is frothy, pour it into the dry ingredients along with the olive oil. Mix with a spoon until a shaggy dough starts to form.

Knead the Dough: Lightly flour a clean surface and transfer the dough onto it. Knead the dough for about 6-8 minutes, adding more flour as necessary, until it is smooth and elastic.

First Rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Punch Down and Shape: Once risen, punch the dough down gently to release the air. Divide it into two equal portions for two medium pizzas or keep it whole for a large pizza. Shape into balls.

Second Rise (optional): You can either proceed to roll out the dough immediately or let it rise a further 30 minutes for extra fluffiness.

Roll out the Dough: On a floured surface, roll out the dough to your desired thickness and shape. Don’t forget to sprinkle the surface with flour to prevent sticking!

Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, preheat it as well.

Add Your Toppings: Transfer the rolled dough to a pizza peel or baking sheet, add sauce, cheese, and your favorite toppings.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.

Enjoy: Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, slice, and enjoy your homemade pizza!
