Crispy Air Fryer Mozzarella Sticks

12 string cheese sticks

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs

1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Panko for extra crispiness)

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Cooking spray

Marinara sauce (for dipping)

Prep the Cheese: Start by cutting each string cheese stick in half, giving you 24 shorter mozzarella sticks. Place them in the freezer for 30 minutes to firm them up—this helps keep them from melting too quickly during cooking.

    Set Up Breading Station: In three separate bowls, place the flour in the first bowl, whisk the eggs in the second bowl, and combine the breadcrumbs, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in the third bowl.

      Bread the Cheese Sticks: Once the cheese sticks are firm, take them out of the freezer. First, roll each stick in the flour, coating it completely and shaking off any excess. Then dip it into the egg mixture, ensuring it’s well-coated, and finally roll it in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to ensure the crumbs adhere. Repeat this process for all cheese sticks.

        Chill Again: Place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a plate and freeze them for another 15-20 minutes. This further prevents the cheese from melting out during frying.

          Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).

            Air Fry the Sticks: Once preheated, lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Arrange the mozzarella sticks in a single layer, making sure they are not overcrowded. Lightly spray the tops of the sticks with cooking spray as well.

              Cook: Air fry the mozzarella sticks for 5-7 minutes, flipping them halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy. If your air fryer requires it, cook in batches.
