Cookies have held a cherished place in cultures around the world for centuries. Their humble beginnings can be traced back to the 7th century AD in Persia, where they were first made as small cakes baked on hot stones. As trade routes expanded, cookies began to spread across Europe, evolving along the way. By the 14th century, they made their way into the kitchens of the elite, and by the 18th century, they became a staple in households across the continent.

Ingredients

1 cup cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy.

Gradually add the granulated sugar and brown sugar, mixing until well incorporated.

Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until combined.

In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.

Using a cookie scoop or spoon, drop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. Be careful not to overbake!

Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Once cooled, dust the tops with powdered sugar for a sweet finish.
