Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter

1 cup packed brown sugar

40 saltine crackers

2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

1 cup chopped nuts (such as pecans or walnuts)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Sea salt for sprinkling

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Prepare the Cracker Base: Lay the saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, covering the entire surface.

Make the Toffee: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture comes to a boil. Allow it to boil for 3-4 minutes without stirring until it thickens slightly.

Coat the Crackers: Immediately pour the hot toffee mixture over the saltine crackers, spreading it evenly with a spatula to cover all the crackers.

Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 5-7 minutes, until the toffee is bubbling. Be careful not to let it burn!

Add Chocolate Chips: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot toffee. Let it sit for a minute or two to melt the chocolate.

Spread the Chocolate: Once the chocolate is melted, use a spatula to spread it evenly over the toffee layer.

Add Nuts and Flavor: Sprinkle the chopped nuts on top of the melted chocolate and drizzle with vanilla extract. If desired, add a few pinches of sea salt for extra flavor.

Cool and Set: Allow the candy to cool completely at room temperature, or place it in the refrigerator to speed up the process. Once cooled, break it into pieces.

Serve and Enjoy: Serve the Christmas cracker candy on a festive platter or package it in decorative bags for gifting.
