Ingredients

For the crust:

1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix

1 large egg

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

For the filling:

1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 box (16 oz) powdered sugar

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup chopped pecans

For garnish:

Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Optional: chocolate shavings or pecan halves

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan with cooking spray or butter.

Prepare the Crust: In a mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, 1 egg, and ½ cup of melted butter. Stir until well combined. The mixture will be thick.

Spread the Crust: Press the crust mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan. Use a spatula or your fingers to ensure an even layer.

Make the Filling: In another bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Add in the remaining 2 eggs, vanilla extract, and melted butter. Mix until fully combined.

Add the Sugar: Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing until the filling is smooth and creamy. Then fold in the chopped pecans.

Combine and Bake: Pour the filling over the chocolate crust, spreading it out evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes. The center should be set but still a little jiggly (the gooey part).

Cool the Cake: Once baked, remove from the oven and let the cake cool in the pan at room temperature for at least 30 minutes.

Serve and Garnish: Dust generously with powdered sugar before serving. Optionally, add chocolate shavings or whole pecan halves for an attractive presentation. Cut into squares and enjoy your rich, gooey delight!
