2 ripe bananas, mashed

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup brown sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions
 

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

    In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed bananas and melted butter until smooth.

      Stir in the brown sugar until well combined, then add the egg and vanilla extract. Mix until the batter is homogeneous.

        In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the banana mixture. Stir until just combined; be careful not to overmix.

          Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using) until evenly distributed throughout the batter.

            Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.

              Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. The edges should be slightly golden.

                Allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
