Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1 medium onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1/4 cup ketchup

2 tablespoons yellow mustard

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon brown sugar

Salt and pepper, to taste

4 burger buns

1 cup shredded lettuce

1 cup pickles, sliced

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

For the Secret Sauce:

1/2 cup mayonnaise

2 tablespoons ketchup

1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish

1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

Make the Secret Sauce: In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, sweet pickle relish, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well and set aside in the refrigerator to let the flavors meld.

Cook the Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks, about 5-7 minutes.

Add Aromatics: Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent.

Create the Sloppy Joe Mixture: Stir in the ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, salt, and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for 5 minutes on low heat, allowing the flavors to combine and thicken slightly.

Toast the Buns: While the mixture is simmering, lightly toast the burger buns on a separate skillet or in a toaster.

Assemble the Sloppy Joes: Spoon a generous amount of the beef mixture onto the bottom half of each toasted bun. Top with shredded lettuce, pickles, and a drizzle of secret sauce. Sprinkle cheddar cheese on top.

Finish Off: Place the top half of the bun over the loaded bottom and secure with toothpicks if needed. Serve warm with extra secret sauce on the side.
