Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (or turkey)

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup bell peppers, diced (any color)

1 cup tomato sauce

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tbsp brown sugar

1 tsp smoked paprika

1 tsp chili powder

Salt and pepper to taste

8 slices Texas toast

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed.

Add the chopped onion, garlic, and bell peppers to the skillet. Sauté until the vegetables are soft, about 5 minutes.

Stir in the tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened.

While the meat mixture simmers, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Arrange the Texas toast on a baking sheet. Bake in the oven for about 5 minutes to get them slightly crispy.

Remove the Texas toast from the oven and spoon the sloppy mixture generously onto each slice.

Top each sloppy toast with shredded cheddar cheese, and return to the oven. Bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and melted.

Once done, garnish with fresh parsley for some color and additional flavor.

Serve immediately while hot, enjoying the cheesy, savory goodness!
