Ingredients

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

1 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature

3/4 cup granulated sugar

3/4 cup packed brown sugar (light or dark)

1 tsp vanilla extract

2 large eggs

2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional, walnuts or pecans work well)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large bowl, using a hand mixer or stand mixer, cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar on medium speed until the mixture is light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).

Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the vanilla extract and then add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Continue mixing until well combined.

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed just until blended. Don’t overmix!

Fold in Chocolate Chips and Nuts: Using a spatula, gently fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and, if desired, the chopped nuts until evenly distributed.

Scoop Dough: Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop balls of cookie dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Bake the Cookies: Bake in the preheated oven for 9-11 minutes, or until the edges are golden but the centers look slightly underbaked. They will continue to firm up as they cool.

Cool: Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Enjoy! Serve warm, or store in an airtight container for later enjoyment.
