Ingredients

8 hot dogs (your choice: beef, turkey, or veggie)

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup warm water (about 110°F)

1 tablespoon active dry yeast

1 tablespoon granulated sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon baking soda

1 egg (for egg wash)

Coarse sea salt, or everything bagel seasoning (for topping)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes, or until it becomes frothy. Add salt and gradually mix in the flour until a dough forms.

Knead: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for approximately 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Prepare Hot Dogs: While the dough is rising, you can prepare your hot dogs by patting them dry with a paper towel.

Shape the Bagel Dogs: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope (about 12 inches) and wrap it spirally around each hot dog, leaving the ends of the hot dog exposed.

Boil: In a large pot, bring about 4 cups of water to a boil. Once boiling, add the baking soda slowly (it will fizz). Boil each wrapped hot dog for about 30 seconds, then use a slotted spoon to transfer them back to the prepared baking sheet.

Egg Wash: Beat the egg in a small bowl. Brush the egg wash over each bagel dog and sprinkle with coarse sea salt or everything bagel seasoning.

Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.

Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces like mustard, ketchup, or cheese sauce!
