When I Took Matters Into My Own Hands While He Enjoyed Paradise Without Us

Confrontation
As the triplets wail in the background, I dial Ethan’s number, my hands shaking with a mix of dread and determination. The screen flickers to life, and there he is: sun-kissed, relaxed, and looking completely unbothered. My heart races. “Ethan, we need to talk.”
He smirks slightly, leaning back in his chair. “Can this wait? I’m on vacation, you know.” The casual tone sends a stab of frustration through me.
“This isn’t just about you anymore,” I snap back, my voice rising over the cacophony of crying babies. “You didn’t just leave me to fend for the triplets; you left me to deal with your mess.”
“Mess? Come on, you’ve got to be overreacting,” he replies, rolling his eyes. “I went to Cabo to relax, not to deal with your hormones.”
The dismissal stings. “Ethan, I heard what Sarah said. Are you really going to pretend nothing is going on?”
His expression darkens, and he shifts uncomfortably. “This again? You have to stop letting your imagination run wild.”
“Imagination? I’m sitting here, drowning in diapers and sleepless nights, while you’re out enjoying yourself!” I can feel my resolve building, fueled by every sleepless night and every moment of loneliness. “I deserve the truth about what you’re doing.”
The triplets' cries intensify, and I pace around the living room, trying to think clearly amidst the chaos. “If you’re not hiding anything, then why does it feel like you're running away?” I challenge, my heart hammering in my chest.
Uncovering the Truth
After our call, I stare blankly at the wall, the echoes of our argument reverberating in my mind. I can’t just let this go; I need to know the truth. I dive into Ethan’s social media, scrolling and searching for any telltale signs. My heart pounds harder with every click.
Then, I spot it. A series of vacation photos—Ethan, looking carefree, and a striking woman beside him, grinning widely. My breath hitches. “Who is she?”
I zoom in, noticing how closely they stand together, her arm draped casually around his shoulders. The woman looks eerily familiar. “No way…” I mutter, the memory flashing in my mind—her flirting at last year’s party, the way she had laughed at his jokes.
My stomach twists. “Could this be real?” I whisper to myself, piecing together suspicions I had tried to ignore. “Did he really…”
Heart racing, I dig deeper, scrolling through comments and more pictures. Each click only deepens the pit of anxiety in my stomach. “This can’t be happening,” I murmur. The betrayal feels palpable in the air around me.
Just as I think I have Ethan cornered with the truth, my phone buzzes. It’s a notification from him. My hands tremble as I unlock my phone, my breath catching in my throat. The message reads, “I’ve filed for divorce.”
