The Night I Realized My Husband Chose Power Over Me While I Fought Alone to Bring Our Daughter Into the World

The Night I Realized My Husband Chose Power Over Me While I Fought Alone to Bring Our Daughter Into the World Save

Alone in the Clinic

The pain threatens to consume me entirely as I lie in the clinic, breathless and desperate. I can almost hear the storm outside, but it’s the chaos in my mind that drowns out everything else.

Images flash before my eyes—our wedding day, the soft vows exchanged, and the way Pierce’s eyes sparkled with promise. He had sworn to protect me, to love me through anything. How can he possibly be so far away now?

A wave of pain crashes over me, and I clutch the sheets, pulling them tighter as if they can hold me together. Memories twist and turn like the lightning striking outside, the way shadows began to creep into our lives—first the late nights, then the hushed phone calls, and now this. My heart races.

Where are you, Pierce? I need you. I can’t do this alone.

With each contraction, a chill runs down my spine. I imagine him in that penthouse with Selena, his laughter echoing while I’m here, alone, waging my own war. My body betrays me, and I scream out his name, hoping he can hear me over the thundering rain.

The Moment of Truth

After what feels like an eternity, the air shifts, and my beautiful baby girl finally enters the world. She cries, a pure and powerful sound that should fill my heart with joy. But instead, I'm engulfed by a gaping void where Pierce should be.

“Can I call him?” I ask the nurse, my voice barely a whisper, fear tightening around my chest.

She hesitates, her gaze sympathetic but heavy with unspoken truths. “I think you should wait, Mrs. Voss.”

“Wait for what?” I demand, feeling the heat rise to my cheeks. My hands tremble as I check my phone again, praying for a miracle—a message, a missed call, something to bridge this night of shadows.

Suddenly, the screen lights up. I click it open, and my breath hitches. There’s a photo of Pierce and Selena, both smiling, toasting glasses in the bright lights of a casino. My heart sinks deeper than the weight of a thousand storms.

“No… no…” I whisper, the betrayal tasting bitter on my tongue.

Just as I’m grappling with the reality of it all, a video begins to play on the casino screens. I can’t look away as I see Pierce and Selena, their faces locked in conspiratorial whispers. They’re plotting against me, and the world narrows as shock grips my heart.
