The Day I Discovered My Husband’s Secret Through a Stranger’s Eyes

The Day I Discovered My Husband’s Secret Through a Stranger’s Eyes Save

In the Aftermath of Calder's Memorial

Elowen's living room is filled with a silence that feels heavy against the walls, interrupted only by the soft rustling of the letter she’s unfolding in front of her. I watch her, my heart racing. What could be so significant in those carefully penned lines?

She reads the first line aloud, and her voice trembles. “He loved me, even when he should have let me go,” she whispers, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. My stomach twists. This is not the Calder I knew.

“What does that mean?” I ask, my voice barely above a whisper. “What did he never tell me?”

Elowen glances up, her gaze searching mine. “Calder had a life before you. A past he couldn’t escape.” The weight of her words lands in my chest like a stone.

I can’t tear my eyes away from her face, wondering how much more there is to discover. Was our life together built on secrets? The family photos on the walls seem to mock me with their innocence.

“He was torn between two worlds,” Elowen continues, her voice steadier now. “And you were the light that kept him anchored.” But her words only deepen my confusion. I need clarity, not more shadows.

“What else did he hide?”

Elowen hesitates, gripping the letter tighter. “There’s something you need to know about his past.” That’s when I realize I’m holding my breath, waiting for the truth to shatter my world.

The Secret He Kept

“Calder had a daughter named Lyra,” Elowen finally says, each word like a bullet piercing my heart. “He had to leave her behind.” The revelation rocks me. A daughter? How could I not have known?

“Leave her behind?” I echo, my voice trembling. “What circumstances?”

Elowen looks away, her expression haunted. “He promised he would return, but life doesn’t always allow for second chances.”

Everything inside me feels like it’s unraveling. I blink, trying to comprehend the magnitude of this secret. “Did he ever mention her? Did he ever think to tell me?”

“He was afraid of hurting you,” she replies softly. “Or maybe he believed it was too late.” There’s an ache in her voice that makes me wonder what else Calder was hiding.

Just as I am about to press her for more details, Elowen’s phone buzzes on the table, the screen lighting up with a video call notification. My heart sinks as I read the name: Lyra.

Elowen glances at me, panic flaring in her eyes. “I... I have to answer this.” My breath quickens; dread blooms in my chest. This isn’t just a call—it’s the beginning of a connection I never saw coming.
