Six-Year-Old's Incredible Journey: She Pushed Her Newborn Twins Miles to Get Help

Six-Year-Old's Incredible Journey: She Pushed Her Newborn Twins Miles to Get Help
← Previous Part (1) Reading Part 2 of 3

Ms. Thompson knocked on the front door, but there was no answer. She tried the handle, and the door creaked open. The inside was dimly lit, and the air was heavy with a scent of neglect. They stepped inside, and Lily led them to the bedroom where her mother lay.

Her mother, Emma, was still on the bed, her face pale and her breathing shallow. Ms. Thompson called for the paramedics, and they quickly moved to assess her condition. One of the paramedics checked her vital signs while the other prepared a stretcher.

"What's wrong with Mommy?" Lily asked, her voice a mere whisper.

The paramedic looked at her with a gentle expression. "We're going to take her to the hospital, Lily. She needs some special care right now, but we'll do everything we can to help her."

Lily nodded, her eyes filled with tears. She watched as the paramedics carefully lifted her mother onto the stretcher and carried her out of the house. Ms. Thompson stayed by Lily's side, offering a comforting arm around her shoulders.

As they walked back to the ambulance, Ms. Thompson asked, "Lily, do you know if your mommy has any family or friends nearby?"

Lily shook her head. "Just us. We don't have a lot of people around."

Ms. Thompson's heart ached for the young girl. "It's okay, Lily. We'll figure this out together. We'll make sure you and your babies are safe."

Back in the ambulance, Lily sat quietly, her mind racing with thoughts of her mother and the babies. She had never felt so alone, yet she knew she had done everything she could to get them to safety. The ambulance's siren wailed as they sped back to the hospital, a beacon of hope in the midst of her fear.

Chapter 4: The Truth Unfolds

At the hospital, Lily was taken to a small room where a kind pediatrician, Dr. Smith, examined her. She was given a warm meal and a change of clothes, but her thoughts remained with her mother and the twins. Dr. Smith sat down beside her and asked about her mother's health.

"Lily, do you know if your mommy has any medical conditions or if she takes any medications?"

Lily thought hard. "She sometimes takes pills for her head. She says they help her feel better."

Dr. Smith nodded, making notes. "Do you know what kind of pills they are?"

Lily shook her head. "I just know they're in a small bottle on the nightstand."

Dr. Smith made a call to the emergency room where Emma was being treated. She explained the situation and asked for a thorough search of the house for any medication bottles. A few minutes later, she received a call back. Emma had been taking a high dose of a sedative, which could explain her prolonged unresponsiveness.

"Lily, your mommy has been taking some strong medicine to help her sleep. Sometimes, when people take too much, it can make them very sleepy for a long time," Dr. Smith said gently.

Lily's eyes widened. "Is she going to be okay?"

"We're doing everything we can to help her. She's in good hands now," Dr. Smith assured her.

Lily felt a wave of relief, but it was quickly followed by a new wave of questions. "Why did she take so much? Did she want to go to sleep forever?"

Dr. Smith hesitated, choosing her words carefully. "Sometimes, people feel very sad or scared, and they think taking more medicine will help. But it can be dangerous. Your mommy is getting the help she needs now."
