My Son's Fiancée Humiliated Me, but I Had a Plan That Would Change Everything Forever
The Gathering
The next morning, Ethan appeared at my house, exhaustion etched into his features. He seemed like the little boy from my memories, sitting across from me at the breakfast table as I served him cereal.
“Mom, I don’t know what to do,” he admitted. His vulnerability tugged at my heart. “Canceling the wedding today gives Vanessa exactly what she wants.”
“You’ll invite Vanessa and her parents here tomorrow evening,” I said, my voice steady. “If you simply end the engagement today, she’ll spin the narrative to her advantage.”
His brow furrowed. “If she thinks she’s still manipulating you, then the media frenzy following the cancellation will only give her more power.”
“Exactly.” I leaned forward, my pulse racing. “Do you really want her feeding off your weakness? Look at how she treated me.”
Understanding spread across Ethan’s face, the pieces coming together. What I had recorded might very well expose the woman who wanted to take everything from him.
The following evening, the Mitchell family arrived right on time, and I steeled myself for the confrontation. Vanessa wore a striking red designer dress, attempting to capture the air of heartbreak and elegance all at once.
“It was all one terrible misunderstanding,” George explained, as if that would erase the previous night’s malice.
I placed a thick legal document on the dining table, a weighty cornerstone in a game I intended to control. “Then let’s begin with the prenuptial agreement.”
Vanessa’s expression immediately soured. “I’m not signing anything that questions my love for Ethan.”
“Because your private conversations seem to mention money far more often than love,” I added, my voice cold.
“We’re not going to sit here while you slander my daughter.” George’s face flushed red, the accusation stinging.
Just then, my attorney, Margaret Bennett, entered, followed by the notary and two investigators from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Vanessa turned pale, the color draining from her face. This was when it hit her: she had messed with the wrong woman.
