My husband’s lies shattered in court as I collapsed, and a military doctor fought to save my truth

My husband’s lies shattered in court as I collapsed, and a military doctor fought to save my truth Save

Backstage in the Courtroom Hallway

I steadied myself against the cold marble wall, feeling the tremor in my legs like a low‑frequency hum.

“Maya,” a voice said, and I turned to see Colonel Dwight Carver, his army‑green coat still crisp from the emergency.

He pressed a hand to my shoulder, his grip firm enough to make my skin tingle.

“They asked me to be on your case,” he whispered, eyes flicking toward the courtroom doors. “Judge Reeves made a private request. He knows there’s more to this than a faint.”

I swallowed hard, the taste of stale coffee on my tongue.

“What do you mean?” I asked, voice cracking.

“Your spells are not simple syncope,” he said. “They’re a side effect of something… something we’ve been tracking for years.”

His gaze hardened. “If you keep pushing yourself, you’ll collapse again, and this time there won’t be a colonel to catch you.”

I felt a cold draft brush the hallway, as if the building itself were holding its breath.

“What can I do?” I asked, trying to ward off the panic rising in my chest.

He stepped closer, his breath smelling of antiseptic.

“Stay near the bench, keep your water bottle within reach, and trust no one who says you’re faking.”

His words landed like a warning shot, and I nodded, the weight of a secret program pressing against my ribs.

The Darkness Falls

I opened my eyes to the harsh glare of the courtroom lights, the judge’s stern face hovering above me.

My hand twitched, the rail of the witness box still slick with sweat.

“Mrs. Lowell?” Judge Reeves asked, his tone softer now.

Before I could answer, a voice erupted from the gallery.

“Maya! I have proof—”

It was Thomas, my brother, his eyes wild, his hands clutching a stack of crumpled papers.

He shouted, “I’ve got the documents that prove Garrick abused Zuri! He’s not a victim!”

His words cut through the courtroom’s stale air, a knife‑edge of hope.

Suddenly the room shuddered, a low rumble followed by a snap—

the lights flickered, sputtered, and went out.

Pitch black swallowed the pews, the murmurs, the shuffling of feet.

A collective gasp rose, then a sharp, terrified scream echoed from the gallery.

My heart hammered; I could barely feel the bench beneath me.

In the suffocating darkness, the scream lingered, unanswered, leaving everyone unsure if Thomas survived.
