Facing the Truth
Outside the ballroom, the air was cold and crisp, wrapping around me like a shroud. I darted toward the parking lot, scanning frantically for the car. Just as I reached Aunt Carol's vehicle, my phone buzzed again, and I felt my heart leap.
“Meet me at the park. The truth can’t wait.”
With shaking hands, I saved the number and took a deep breath. I had no idea who this was or what they wanted from me, but I was determined to find out. The park was only a short drive away, and I didn’t have time to hesitate.
I slid into the driver’s seat, my palms clammy against the steering wheel. I turned the key, the engine roaring to life, and I sped away from the prom—a whirl of color and laughter fading into the distance.
