My Father’s Dates Disappear, So I Asked My Best Friend to Help, But What Happened Next Changed Everything

My Father’s Dates Disappear, So I Asked My Best Friend to Help, But What Happened Next Changed Everything Save

Confrontation and Hidden Truths

I paced in front of the living room window, the tension building as I waited for Camille and my father to arrive. The weight of what I had uncovered gnawed at me. Would they finally understand the urgency of my search for answers?

The door creaked open, and my father entered, glancing between Camille and me, an apprehensive look etched on his face. “What’s going on, Maya?” he asked, his voice steady but underscored with concern.

“We need to talk about the women, Dad. I think there’s something you’re not telling me.”

He shifted uncomfortably, eyes darting to the floor. “What do you mean?”

“You said you don’t understand why they leave, but I found out they all have connections to the charity event you used to attend with Mom.”

“That’s just a coincidence.”

I could feel Camille’s quiet support beside me. “No, it’s not. Something happened there. Something tied to you.”

His expression hardened, and he opened his mouth to speak, but Camille interjected. “Please, let’s just be honest.”

Silence hung heavy for a moment. Finally, my father took a deep breath, his voice trembling. “A long time ago, there was an accident… it changed everything.”

My heart raced. “What kind of accident?”

“A woman died. I was involved.”

The air felt electric, each word sending shivers down my spine. “What does that have to do with them?”

“I don’t know,” he admitted, but I could see the flicker of fear in his eyes. “Maybe they’re just drawn to me in ways I don’t understand.”

“Or there’s something more to it,” I whispered, my mind racing. “I found a letter in your belongings.”

His eyes widened. “What letter?”

My fingers trembled as I pulled the yellowed envelope from my pocket. “It’s addressed to one of the women.”

He recoiled as if expecting it to explode. “You shouldn’t have gone through my things!”

The Shocking Discovery

My pulse hammered in my ears as I tore the envelope open. “You never mentioned her name, Dad. Why?”

He looked pale, almost ghostly. “That’s not what you think.”

But I could already see the truth crashing down around us. “Each woman looks like Mom, doesn’t she?”

He swallowed hard, his silence screaming louder than words. “It’s not intentional.”

Suddenly, an overwhelming dread settled over me. “They vanish after dating you, don’t they? This isn’t just bad luck. It’s a curse.”

“No!” he barked, but the fear in his eyes said otherwise. “It’s complicated.”

Complicated. The word echoed in my mind. “Where are they, Dad? Where are they going?”

Ignoring my question, he glanced away, avoiding my gaze entirely.

My heart dropped as a cold realization washed over me. I needed to see for myself. I rushed down the hall to the small room I never entered, the door slightly ajar. I heard muffled breaths behind it.

When I stepped inside, my stomach lurched. The walls were lined with portraits of the women, each framed and marked with dates. My eyes landed on the last one — Camille. The date was tomorrow.

“No, no, no…” I whispered, tears streaming down my cheeks. “This can’t be happening.”

My father’s shadow loomed behind me, but I couldn’t turn around. The truth hung in the air — he had unknowingly cursed them all.
