I’ve Lived Fifty‑Six Years Alone Until a Mysterious Bouquet and a Note Revealed My Husband’s Dark Secret

I’ve Lived Fifty‑Six Years Alone Until a Mysterious Bouquet and a Note Revealed My Husband’s Dark Secret Save

Honey, I never wanted things to happen this way

I stared at the card, the paper trembling beneath my fingertips.

"You won't believe why I had to disappear back then," it read, the words like a cold wind rattling the shutters.

Adrian's warning—"Act normal. Do exactly what I'm asking you to do now"—pounded in my chest, each syllable a hammer.

I slipped the note into my palm, the engraved roses beside it smelling faintly of wilted hope.

My hands shook; the kitchen lights flickered as if echoing my dread.

"Lily?" I whispered into the phone, the dial tone humming like a distant siren.

Her voice came, cracked and wary, "Mom? I—what's happening?"

I swallowed the lump, the years of silence between us suddenly compressing.

"Adrian's not dead," I blurted. "He sent these. He... he says he wasn't the one who—"

Lily's sigh was a sigh of the past, "Mom, Adrian disappeared after the Ravenmere incident. No one’s seen or heard from him for thirty‑eight years."

"There was a project," she added, eyes darting to the dim hallway, "something called—Project Aurora. It was hidden in the base files. They never told anyone."

My breath hitched. The name rang like a warning bell.

"I need you here," I pleaded, feeling the weight of decades collapse into this moment.

She hesitated, then said, "I'll be there in an hour. Hold onto whatever you have." The line clicked dead, leaving the note burning a brand on my palm.

The Attic Secrets

Lily's boots thudded on the creaking floorboards as she entered, the storm raging outside, rain lashing the panes.

The ladder moaned under our weight, each rung a gasp of old wood.

Dust swirled like ghosts as we pulled down the attic hatch, the light from the kitchen sputtering against the gloom.
